Corporate Environmental Management in Esmeraldas, Ecuador: An Alternative for Local Environmental Sustainability
Abstract
The objective of the article is to analyze corporate environmental management in Esmeraldas as an alternative for local environmental sustainability. The methods used include analysis-synthesis and the general-to-specific approach. A study of existing literature on global environmental management was conducted, considering the theoretical framework and generally accepted practices. This general understanding was contextualized in Esmeraldas, identifying local peculiarities, critical points, and strengths that influence the locality’s environmental sustainability. It was demonstrated that environmental management constitutes an alternative for local environmental sustainability by promoting sustainable practices that conserve natural resources and restore degraded ecosystems. Despite the critical points limiting a more sustainable natural environment in Esmeraldas, there are strengths to implement effective policies and corporate ecological technologies that contribute to balancing economic growth and the conservation of the natural environment.
