Abstract

The objective of this research was to analyze the efficiency of financial management of segment one cooperatives in Ecuador during the period 2019-2022. The research focused on evaluating the financial performance of these cooperatives, identifying trends and significant variations in key indicators such as technical equity, risk-weighted assets and solvency. The methodology used was a quantitative and descriptive approach. Documentary and statistical analysis methods were used, collecting data from annual financial reports and official documents provided by the cooperatives, as well as from national financial databases. The techniques included the analysis of financial statements and the application of statistical tools such as the mean, median, mode and standard deviation to analyze the distribution and variability of financial data. The results showed considerable variability in the financial performance of the cooperatives throughout the period analyzed. In 2019, a wide dispersion in technical assets was observed among cooperatives, with Cooperativa Juventud Ecuatoriana Progresista LTDA standing out with the highest assets. In 2020, although an increase in technical assets was noted, there was also greater exposure to financial risks. In 2021 and 2022, continued growth in technical assets was evident, but with significant differences in solvency, where some cooperatives operated close to the minimum required limit, suggesting a need for more effective risk management. Key findings underscore the importance of prudent financial management and continued regulatory oversight to ensure the long-term viability of segment one cooperatives in Ecuador. Although some cooperatives showed a solid financial position, others faced significant challenges that could compromise their stability.
