Oil and terms of trade in Angola (2014-2018)
Keywords:
Primary Export Model, Primary Oil Export Model, Terms of TradeAbstract
The pattern of accumulation of Angola's wealth is based on the production and export of oil. The fall in oil prices from 2014 on wards has caused a contraction in the country's economy. This paper aims to analyze the terms of trade in Angola in the period 2014-2018. To achieve this objective, the terms of trade were measured with a bias towards oil exports. Statistics and economic analysis were used as analytical tools. The paper concludes that the Primary Oil Export Model has negative effects that are evident in the deterioration of the terms of trade in the period 2014-2018 and in the pressures it exerts on the country's Balance of Payments.
